Rajagopal prefers winning when it matters | aXross The Line Posted: 07 Jun 2012 11:22 AM PDT
Speaking to aXrosstheline.com before Malaysia's first training session at the Jalan Besar Stadium, Rajagopal stressed that intensity between International friendly matches and proper cup competitions differ. "People will talk about history and compare the results, but fans do not understand the in-depth details within the set up," he said. "Friendly matches provide a chance for the National team to come together to prepare as a team for major competitions. Peaking at the right time is important. I am always positive. The future is very bright for the Malaysian team," "Every coach wants to see their team put up a good performance, with his players trying to win every match that they play in." "The most important thing is that we won the Suzuki Cup, we won the SEA Games. If I have the strongest side during the World Cup qualifiers last year, different scenario would have occurred," "When do I want my players to win most? That is important. The fans want us to win it and I as a coach, I do not want to lose. But it would be more satisfying to win a tournament because it will be more exciting," he added. Rajagopal is expected to field a strong side against Singapore as observed on the eve of the big match. The former Malaysian International will have the luxury of having Norshahrul Idlan Talaha and Safee Sali leading the front line after the former missed last year's two legged clash in the World Cup Qualifiers. Shahurain Abu Samah, who has been in fine form for Negeri Sembilan in the Malaysian Super League this year, will start on the right side of a four men midfield ahead of Kelantan's S Chanturu. There are places also for regulars Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, Safiq Rahim and S Kunalan. The Tigers' last fixture saw them drew a blank against Philippines in Malaysia on 1 June. Probable Malaysia Line up (4-4-2): Khairul Fahmi Che Mat (GK), Bunyamin Umar, Fadhli Shas, Aidil Zaquan, Mahali Jasuli, Shahurain Abu Samah, Safiq Rahim (Captain), S Kunalan, Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, Safee Sali |
