Arsenal hit two late goals to come from behind and beat Malaysia 2-1 in the opening match of their tour of Asia on Tuesday.

Malaysia took the lead on the stroke of halftime when Azmi Muslim found himself in acres of space down the left and proceeded to send a ferocious effort into the top corner.

However, substitute Thomas Eisfeld drew his side level five minutes before time when applied the finishing touch to a sweeping counterattack, before Chuks Aneke grabbed a last-minute winner when his shot took a wicked deflection and looped into the back of the net.

The last time both sides met a year ago, it was the Gunners who got off to a brilliant start when they went ahead after just three minutes. This time however, it was Harimau Malaya who nearly dealt the first blow.

With two minutes on the clock, Aidil Zafuan picked up the ball just inside the opposition and half and hit a spectacular half-volley that nearly caught Vito Mannone out, although the Italian keeper raced back in time and gathered comfortably.

Five minutes later, Malaysia delivered another sign of their intent when Norshahrul Idlan Talaha went on a driving through the middle and tried his luck from the edge of the area, although he failed to get enough power on his shot and left Mannone with a comfortable save.

The Gunners then created their first chance in the ninth minute when Francis Coquelin released Marouane Chamakh with a neat flick, where the Morocco international proceeded to force Farizal into a smart save down low with his first-time shot.

Farizal was then called into action again three minutes later when he raced out and dived bravely at the feet of Gervinho, after the Ivorian had broke free down the right following a neat exchange with Abou Diaby.

Diaby, who had an awful run with injuries last season, was looking very lively early on and looked poised to force his way into the Malaysia box in the 17th minute after driving down the centre and playing a one-two with Chamakh, only to have his progress halted by a perfectly-timed tackle by Aidil.

Safiq Rahim then forced Mannone into an unconvincing save five minutes later when he curled a freekick towards the near post, before the Harimau captain played a delightful ball over the top to Norshahrul on the half-hour mark, who was about to turn and get a shot away when Johan Djourou weighed in with a timely intervention.

Andre Santos then had two excellent chances to put the Gunners in front but he failed miserably on both occasions. First, he received the ball inside the box after a poor pass from Azamuddin Akil deep inside his own half but could only screw his shot wide, before firing straight at Farizal after he had stolen in ahead of S. Subramaniam to meet a neat flick by Chamakh.

And his profligacy came back to haunt the Gunners right on the stroke of halftime when Azmi picked up the ball down the left and, with no opponent closing him down, decided to let fly with a terrific 30-yard drive that sailed into the top corner, leaving Mannone with no chance.

Undoubtedly keen to give as any of his players a run-out, Wenger sent out a completely different side after the break apart from Mannone, including England internationals Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and the changes nearly made an immediate impact.

After finding space down the right, Walcott whipped in a good cross that Farizal did well to claim with authority, before Benik Afobe hit the post after a quickly-taken freekick from the Gunners, although the linesman's flag would have ruled it out for offside.

Malaysia could then have doubled their lead in the 56th minute when Safiq sliced upon the visitors' defence with a delightful through-ball to Safee Sali, but the Pelita Jaya marksman could only fire straight at Mannone after cutting inside his marker.

A minute later, Farizal did well to deny Ryo Miyaichi a clear-cut chance at the far post after tipping away another dangerous cross by Walcott at full stretch, before the Negri Sembilan custodian, who was having the game of his life, sped off his line to deny Afobe in a one-on-one situation in the 65th minute.

Walcott was the next to threaten the Malaysia goal in the 77th minute when Miyaichi picked him out with a good square pass, but Muslim Ahmad did well to quell the danger by dispossessing the 23-year-old right on the penalty spot.

Six minutes before time, Walcott's fellow England international Chamberlain went on a blistering run through the middle and left four players in his wake, only to shoot straight at Farizal.

However, there was to be no denying the Gunners a minute later when Alexandre Song sent Nico Yennaris in behind the Harimau defence, where the youngster proceeded to beat his man before laying the ball back for Eisfeld to sweep home.

And four minutes later, the comeback was complete when Aneke found space just inside the area and fired in a effort that took a wicked deflection and looped over a hapless Farizal, ensuring Arsenal got their tour of Asia off to a winning start, even if it had not been as easy as expected.
